Lucknow, October 30
A day after the custodial death of his father Satya Praksh Shukla alias Sajan Shukla in Amethi, his son Rahul accused the police of demanding Rs 13 lakh from them and reportedly vandalising their home.
He charged the Amethi police of raiding their Pratapgarh house before dawn on October 28 accusing his father of being the mastermind behind the October 5 Rs 26 lakh robbery from the UCO bank manager.
The bank is situated in the house owned by Shukla at Peerpur in Amethi.
“The police brought my father, me and my brothers to the police station pressurising us to give them Rs 13 lakh - half of the looted amount,” he alleged.
According to him, the police had asked them to part with the money or else they would kill their father as well as him and his brother Sahil. “They broke the door of our house and beat up my father in the police station. They forcibly gave him poison and when his condition started to deteriorate they informed other family members,” alleged eldest son Rahul on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted: “The UP police is patronising criminals and is an expert in troubling citizens on a daily basis. Pratapgarh’s Satya Prakash Shukla’s family is saying that he was tortured in front of his children. A similar incident had taken place in Hapur. Still the BJP government continues to turn a blind eye to such incidents.”
Chief Medical Superintendent Dr VB Singh confirmed that the postmortem report had established poison in the stomach. However, Amethi SP Khyati Garg continues to deny the custodial death of Shukla. Amethi DM Prashant Sharma has ordered a magisterial probe. — TNS
