Thiruvananthapuram: “Never be defeated, never give up," said Pranjal Patil, the country's first visually impaired woman IAS officer, as she assumed charge as Sub-Collector of Thiruvananthapuram here on Monday. "With our efforts, all of us will get that one breakthrough which we want," the 30-year old Kerala cadre officer said. Patil, who hails from Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra, had lost her vision when she was just six years old. She cracked the UPSC examination in 2016 with 773rd rank and improved her ranking to 124 the next year. PTI
Lanka markets to soon drape C’garh sarees
New Delhi: Chhattisgarh’s world famous Kosa silk sarees will soon be available in Sri Lankan markets as the island nation has signed a pact with the state to facilitate trade and business, an official said. Women in Sri Lanka have been showing their keen interest in Kosa silk sarees, said Lanka's Department of Co-operative Development Assistant Commissioner Nilanga D Somapala. Besides Kosa, Chhattisgarh’s Tussar silk, Gheecha silk, linen, Raw silk, Aari silk, Matka silk among others are women’s favourite in Sri Lanka due to their uniqueness. PTI
Doc prescribes pregnancy test to two men!
Ranchi: A doctor in Jharkhand allegedly prescribed pregnancy test to two young men in Chatra district after they complained of stomach pain. Besides pregnancy test, Mukesh Kumar, a government hospital doctor, also asked the men to undergo tests for HIV and haemoglobin. "A probe has been ordered," said Civil Surgeon Arun Kumar Paswan. The doctor, however, has denied the allegation. In July, another doctor in East Singhbhum district had prescribed condoms to a woman who had complained of stomach pain. IANS
