New Delhi, November 15
Chastened and trolled for skipping a Parliamentary meeting on air quality, 23 MPs, including BJP absentees Gautam Gambhir and Hema Malini, today attended the high-level panel meeting convened on the crucial issue.
Sources said the meeting lasting “more than two hours” saw presentations from the Environment Secretary. “Most of the MPs expressed their views and concerns on the issue. Gambhir talked of the steps taken by him in his constituency. It was a good meeting lasting more than two hours considering that Parliament is in the session,” said one of the officials who attended the meeting.
On Friday, the meeting had to be cancelled as several MPs and top officials skipped it. Only four of the 29 MPs on the panel and a few officials turned up for the meeting called by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development. They included chairperson Jagdambika Pal, Hussain Masoodi, CR Patil and Sanjay Singh.
Spotted in Indore at a cricket match, Gambhir was trolled for not attending a meeting concerning his area. Leading the ante against the BJP's cricketer-turned- MP, the rival AAP also wondered if Gambhir's seriousness on pollution was “limited to the commentary box”. — TNS
