Kolkata, November 5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said Chandrayaan-II could turn out to be a watershed moment in the history of scientific research in the country.

While inaugurating the India International Science Festival (IISF) through video-conferencing from Delhi, Modi said Chandrayaan-II might not have been able to achieve all its objectives, but it did manage to generate interest among the youth. “I have seen social media comments made by parents about the enthusiasm shown by their children about the mission. The children were talking about moon topography, satellite trajectory, the possibility of finding water in the south pole of moon, lunar orbit and so on.” “The parents were stunned as they had no clue about why their children were so curious to know about complex scientific subjects. The curiosity generated in the minds of young people is a great success of the second moon mission,” Modi said.

Delegates from various countries, including Bhutan and Afghanistan, Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and scientists and students were among those present at the event.
