New Delhi: To impart quality education to tribal children, the Centre has decided to set up Eklavya schools on the pattern of Navodaya Vidyalayas in blocks with over 50 per cent tribal population and at least 20,000 tribal persons by 2022, Union Minister Renuka Singh Saruta said in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Govt to promote ‘healthier’ honey cubes
New Delhi: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday informed the Lok Sabha that plans are afoot to start production of honey cubes which can replace sugar sachets as a healthier alternative. He said honey production will increase due to this and benefit tribals and others involved in honey production. He also said to sell products manufactured by small and medium industries, his ministry is in talks with the SBI to launch “Bharat Craft” e commerce portal. PTI
Buy tickets via credit card on UP buses
Lucknow: Passengers travelling on state-run buses in Uttar Pradesh will soon be able use their credit cards to buy tickets. The UP State Road Transport Corporation will introduce Android electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) on all its buses over the next six months, its managing director Raj Shekhar said on Thursday. About 15,000 such machines will be inducted in the next three to six months, covering all buses and routes, he said. PTI
Indo-US UN expert killed in Kabul attack
Washington: An Indian-American expert working for the UNDP in Afghanistan has been killed in a terror attack on a UN vehicle in Kabul, according to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. “I want to confirm with a heavy heart that a US citizen, Anil Raj of California, was killed in a terrorist attack on a UN vehicle in Kabul on November 24. There were five other civilians who were injured, including staff,” Pompeo told reporters. While the State Department did not provide any other details about Raj, US media reports said he hailed from California. PTI
