Kolkata, November 14

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who does not share best of relations with Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, has turned down the latter’s request for lending him the state government helicopter to enable him travel to Farakka to attend a function.

This is the second time within a span of two days that Mamata has refused to lend the helicopter to Dhankhar.

Earlier, Mamata ignored the Governor’s request for helicopter for visiting Shantipur (located about 100 km away from Kolkata) for attending the famous “Ras Festival” there on November 12.

The explanation given by the state government then was that the helicopter, taken by the state government from an operator on lease, was required by CM Mamata Banerjee for doing an aerial survey and make assessment about the devastation caused by the cyclone. It is not clear what has prevented the state government to turn down the Governor’s latest request for making available the chopper to him for visiting Farakka. Dhankhar (68) has decided to travel the distance by road.

A Raj Bhavan spokesman said in Farakka the Governor would attend a function being held there tomorrow to celebrate the silver jubilee of SNH College, Farakka Barrage, Murshidabad.
