Roadways staff reject KCR’s offer to end strike

Hyderabad, November 3

The joint action committee (JAC) of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has rejected Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao offer to allow them to come back to work by November 5.

The TSRTC that has been on strike for a month, bringing all public transport to a crippling halt has, however, said: “We urge the chief minister to immediately hold talks and discuss pros and cons of our demands.”

Condemning state government’s decision on privatising 5,100 RTC routes, JAC convener Aswathama Reddy pointed out that no private player would operate their buses on routes that are in loses. He said 48,000 employees on strike would not return to work, but were willing to talk. The Telangana Cabinet has taken a decision last night to reverse the government’s decision of “terminating” them in case they returned to work by Tuesday night.

“No one has any right to take our jobs. We have self-respect and won’t pay heed to government’s threats and deadlines,” he added. — TNS
