Woebegone Congress faced a fresh set of trouble today when its senior leader and former MP Jyotiraditya Scindia dropped references to the party from his Twitter profile description.
“Public servant and cricket enthusiast” is the new Twitter line of Scindia, the former MP from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, who has been upset with the party over being sidelined in the state affairs.
Although Scindia later downplayed the editing of his Twitter profile, Congress leaders privately acknowledge that not all was well in the Madhya Pradesh unit.
“Jyotiraditya Scindia has been feeling left out in the state affairs for long. He contributed his bit in party’s victory in the state, but did not get anything in return. Chief Minister Kamal Nath continues to hold the post of state unit president also and there is no movement in favour of Scindia or his camp. This has led to anxieties in the Scindia camp,” said a former Congress Working Committee member privy to Madhya Pradesh party affairs.
Scindia, who continues to be Congress general secretary, has gradually abdicated his role in West Uttar Pradesh with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra taking complete charge of the state.
Although Scindia has been attending official meetings of the party, his tiffs with Kamal Nath and AICC veteran Digvijay Singh during ticket allocation for state were well known in party circles.
Scindia, unlike another young leader Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan, did not manage any promotions after the state victory and has had his share of spats with the CM and Digvijay Singh who are preventing his growth.
“While Sachin Pilot is the Rajasthan Deputy CM and also state chief, Scindia is nothing. Anxieties are natural, unless urgently addressed,” said a Congress veteran adding that Congress president Sonia Gandhi tends to depend solely on one leader in every state.
