London: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has received the Italian Golden Sand Art Award 2019 at a ceremony in Rome. “I feel very glad and honoured to receive this prestigious award,” said Pattnaik, the sculptor from Odhisa who has participated in more than 60 sand art festivals and championships around the world and won many prizes for India. He said his aim is to always try and send a social message through his sand sculptures. PTI
Exhibit showcases Indo-French ties
New Delhi: An Indo-French exhibition here opens a historical window into the lives of 12 Indian rulers and their French-speaking officers from 1750-1850. Drawing from the archives of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the National Museum here, the exhibition, “Rajas, Nawabs and Firangees, Treasures from the French and the Indian archives (1750-1850),” opened on Friday. The exhibition has put on showcase unseen manuscripts and artefacts that offer glimpses of the Indian court life, through the eyes of French-speaking officers. PTI
5 Indians in Oxford Big Read Asia contest
New Delhi: Five students from India are among the finalists of Oxford Big Read Asia Challenge, an annual reading and writing campaign for primary and secondary students. The winners from India are BR Nimeesha (from Madurai), Ananya Sheorey, Saara Sen, Neha Chhajed and Sama S Jahagirdar (all from Nagpur), a statement from Oxford University Press said. Among the other winners are two students from China and one each from Pakistan and Malaysia. PTI
