Anglo-Indians set to lose quota in House

New Delhi: The Centre has approved a proposal to extend reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies for another 10 years, but is learnt to have decided to do away with a similar quota for the Anglo-Indian community.

The SC and ST reservation was to expire on January 25, 2020, and a Bill for its extension will be brought in ongoing session. Sources said reservation for the Anglo-Indian community had been done away with “for the time being as the community was doing well” and did not need quota.  Parliament has 84 members from the SC and 47 from ST communities. — TNS
