Washington: A Sikh-American from Washington DC is operating a “Seva Truck”, via which he sends out free meals to locals in need, including schools and social work organisations. Washington DC-based Sonny Kakar bought an old FedEx truck, painted it orange and began operating his “Seva Truck”, the American Bazaar reported on Friday. His initiative specially targets kids at risk in underserved communities. IANS
202-yr-old Bengal school to teach in English
Kolkata: The 202-year-old Hindu School in Kolkata has got the state government’s approval to start an English-medium section at the primary level alongside Bengali-medium wing. The Hindu School, one of the top state-run institutes, was set up in 1817 by Scottish philanthropist David Hare, scholar Radhakanta Deb and notable educationist Baidyanath Mukherjee, among others. WhatsApp now gets call waiting option
San Francisco: Facebook-owned WhatsApp has become the latest Voice over Internet Protocol services provider to support call waiting feature even as the company has skipped adding call holding for now. Earlier, when somebody would try to call you on WhatsApp while you were already on the phone, they would hear it ring, but, no one would answer. The call would then get disconnected. IANS
Statue of Unity beats Statue of Liberty’s footfall
New Delhi: In just over a year of its unveiling, the Statue of Unity in Gujarat has outdistanced the footfall of the Statue of Liberty in the US, with an average of 15,000 visitors a day. The Statue of Unity, designed by the Indian sculptor Ram V Sutar is the world's tallest statue, with a height of 182 metres. It is located near the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the river Narmada in Kevadiya town in Gujarat. IANS
