New Delhi, March 25
In a new twist in the Ayodhya land dispute, Nirmohi Akhara — one of the parties to the case — moved the Supreme Court seeking modification of the order of mediation, saying it “left a lot to be desired.” In its plea, Nirmohi Akhara requested the court to appoint two more judges for mediation.
It has also demanded shifting of the venue of mediation from Faizabad to New Delhi or a neutral place in view of sensitive nature of the matter and other local pressures.
Nirmohi Akhara has taken exception to more than 25 parties being invited to mediation to find a solution to the Ram Mandir/Babri Masjid land dispute.
Only the claimants to the land i.e. Nirmohi Akhara and the Waqf Board should be part of mediation, it submitted. The Supreme Court had on March 8 referred the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute at Ayodhya to mediation and appointed former top court judge Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla, spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Chennai-based advocate Shriram Panchu as mediators to find an amicable solution to the problem.
