New Delhi, March 29
The Supreme Court today fixed April 23 for final hearing of petitions filed by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi against re-assessment of their tax liability for 2011-12 in connection with the National Herald case.
While fixing the date, a Bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said it would like to complete the hearing within two days.
During the brief hearing, senior counsel Kapil Sibal and Arvind Datar denied the allegations levelled by the Income Tax Department while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta justified the decision to reopen their assessments. The SC had on December 4 allowed the I-T Department to carry on with the exercise to reassess the tax of Rahul and Sonia for 2011-12 in connection with the National Herald case. — TNS
