Ahmedabad, April 29
The Congress has decided to approach the Gujarat HC after the state government and the Election Commission “failed” to take note of the alleged bogus voting in some booths in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency from where BJP chief Amit Shah is contesting.
Shah’s Congress rival CJ Chavda today said he had taken the legal opinion to approach the High Court since even six days after the polling closed on April 23 no action had been initiated by any authorities concerned into his complaints of bogus voting in some booths of Bankupura village in Bavla taluka of Ahmedabad district.
A video that went viral on the social media showed a BJP leader of Ahmedabad district panchayat repeatedly pressing the EVM button in the name of some absentee voters and was also heard issuing “instructions” to the polling officers present in the booth to “cast” the votes of all other voters who might fail to turn up by 5.30 pm. All booths in the village and some others in its vicinity had recorded more than 90 per cent turnout. — OC
