New Delhi, April 29
Hours after the SC agreed to hear Congress MP Sushmita Dev’s plea for direction to the EC to decide complaints against PM Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah for their alleged hate speeches, the poll panel on Monday said it would take up the issue on Tuesday.
“A host of complaints are there against BJP leaders Narendra Modi and Amit Shah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. We have already completed the secretarial processes for addressing the complaints and a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning to take final calls on them,” a senior EC official said. “We take the decision… we will make it public,” he added. The petition listed out several alleged instances of Model Code of Conduct violations by Modi and Shah in their meetings and referred to — as the first violation — the speech of Modi at a rally at Wardha, Maharashtra, on April 1 where he had allegedly raised the issue of ‘bhagva aatankwad’ (saffron terror). — TNS
