Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, known for his oratory skills, will be the ‘star campaigner’ for the Congress-NCP in the state, addressing at least six rallies in support of Sushilkumar Shinde (Solapur), Supriya Sule (Baramati), Sameer Bhujbal (Nashik), Ashok Chavan (Nanded) and Ajit Pawar’s son Parth (Maval). In Mumbai, he is expected to campaign for Milind Deora (Mumbai South), Priya Dutt (Mumbai North Central), Urmila Matondkar (Mumbai North) and NCP’s Sanjay Dina Patil (Mumbai North East).The rallies are being planned as a purely MNS affair. Case filed against Giriraj for making casteist remark
Patna: A case was filed on Friday at a court in Bihar’s Begusarai against Union Minister Giriraj Singh for making a casteist remark against a Congress MLA. Besides Singh, the case filed by Rashtriya Lok Samta Party leader Rajiv Kumar, also named Mahant Shankar Das of the Suja Thakurbari as an accused for the remark against Begusarai Congress MLA Amita Bhushan. According to the petitioner, the remark was initially made by Shankar which was later supported by Singh during campaigning. The BJP has fielded the minister from Begusarai for the Lok Sabha polls. The petitioner’s lawyer said the Chief Judicial Magistrate court will hear the case again on April 11. IANS
EC shifts Kolkata police commissioner, 3 other top cops
Kolkata: The EC on Friday night transferred Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma and Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) Police Commissioner Gyanwant Singh ahead of the LS polls. Rajesh Kumar, ADG, Pollution Control Board, was appointed as the new Kolkata top cop, while the poll body named Natarajan Ramesh Babu as the Bidhannagar Police Commissioner. Avannu Ravindranath, DC (Airport Division) of Bidhannagar, has been posted as the Birbhum SP and Srihari Pandey, DC KAP, 3rd Battalion, has been posted as Diamond Harbour SP. tns
NaMo TV ad platform launched by DTH: I&B Ministry to EC
New Delhi: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is learnt to have responded to an EC notice on NaMo TV on Friday, saying it is an advertisement platform launched by DTH service providers, which does not require government nod. The ministry is also said that NaMo TV is not a regular channel and it does not figure in the official list of approved channels, a source said. The ministry told the EC that as per the existing norms, no approval is required from the it to run such advertising platforms. The EC will take a call on whether it violated the code after going through the documents. PTI

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most popular politician in India in terms of online search with 7.24 million and 1.82 million searches for 2018 and 2019, respectively, according to a new study. Congress president Rahul Gandhi emerged second with 1.5 million searches in 2019. However, it is Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi who gained popularity most rapidly between 2018 and 2019. Don’t heed criticism by every Tom, Dick and Harry: Pawar
Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday hit back at PM Narendra Modi without naming the latter by claiming he did not heed criticism by “every Tom, Dick and Harry”. On Wednesday, Modi said NCP leaders “were unable to sleep” as their “sleep was jailed in Delhi's Tihar”. Modi, in a rally in Wardha on Monday, had criticised Pawar saying the latter was losing his grip on the NCP which was weakened by a “family feud”. Pawar criticised Modi on the issues of demonetisation, unemployment and black money. PTI
