In the fast lane

Mona

Dreams do come true... for Sanya Malhotra it was a dream debut in Dangal, a film that set many records. The damsel, with curly locks, recalls practicing her getting the best actor award speech in front of the bathroom mirror way back in her childhood!

Acting it was to be and she loves every bit of all that comes with it. As she showed up briefly in Chandigarh on Wednesday, she was totally enthused about the crowd that waited to greet her at the mall. “I cannot wait to go out and get clicked, I have been to that side,” says the soft spoken girl.

She goes down the memory lane as she and her friends saw Shah Rukh Khan at a hotel, and all that excitement and frenzy, “My friend even got clicked with him.” As for her, she loves to pose with her fans, sign autographs, “Though my handwriting is so bad, still,” she laughs.

Growing with each step

Proud of every film that she’s done, this Delhi girl finds herself fortunate to share screen space with giants like Aamir Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. “Each film, each director has helped me better my craft.” While Mumbai is home now, she does find her connection to the capital still strong. “Primarily because my family is still there.” About her new hometown, she loves the maddening pace. “The city doesn’t stop, nor would it let you. You just can’t take a break because those who do, make it so tough; ‘kaam nahi hai, unemployed hoon...” she giggles. While sometimes she misses the relaxed vibe, she picks up fast lanes over slow any day. “The other day my dad was like, ‘Paanch din lagenege wifi connection lagne mein, I was like really, all it takes is a couple of hours in Mumbai!”

Time orientation

One thing that she’s still trying to grapple with is people’s time orientation in her field of work. “I am and would rather be before time if I could help, but that has led me to show up at parties even before host makes it,” says the girl.

She is now working with Anurag Basu in the company of Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi, “It’s amazing fun to have such company.” What she’s even more pepped about is her dubbing for Men In Black in Hindi. “While people wouldn’t think much of dubbing for me it’s as good as acting sans camera though.” Dubbing she finds interesting also for the reason that she finds it difficult to say goodbye to the characters she plays; be it Babita Kumari or Renee Sharma.
