Lucknow, May 6
On the day of the fifth phase of the elections today, BJP ally Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar claimed that he has resigned from the Yogi Adityanath government and it was up to the saffron party to decide on it.
In Ballia, Rajbhar said: “I had submitted my resignation as a cabinet minister on April 13. The BJP is yet to accept it. I now have nothing to do with the government.”
Last month after failing to arrive at any seat-sharing understanding with BJP president Amit Shah, Rajbhar had announced that his party would contest 39 LS seats on its own. He has fielded 40 candidates in the crucial Purvanchal region that goes to the polls in the final two phases. Rajbhars constitute around 20 per cent of the regional population.
Rajbhar accused the BJP of misusing his party’s name and flag in the polls.
