Live your dream

Jasdev Singh

On a warm and muggy afternoon in New York city, as I was making my way through the ubiquitous maze of people and yellow cabs while crossing the streets of Manhattan, little did I perceive that my heartbeat was pumping faster than the speed of the Long Island Rail Road train I took from Hicksville to Penn Station.

I could not imagine that I was finally going to meet Shadoe Stevens, the iconic host of the world-famous show American Top 40. Stevens was born in 1947 as Terry Keith Ingstad in North Dakota. He managed to pay for his education by working with local FM stations, where he quickly became a popular DJ. In fact, in 1957, he was labelled to be America’s youngest DJ. Soon after, Stevens shot into fame in Hollywood and appeared in many shows and movies, including Traxx, Mr Saturday Night, and the voice of Doc Samson in The Incredible Hulk, to name a few. However, his most memorable show till date has been American Top-40, which he hosted from 1988 to 1995. During my conversation, I learnt many aspects of his illustrious life — the most important ones would be to never give up on your dream and always keep contributing towards making the world a better place for everyone. He continues to inspire with shadoeart.com, featuring multi-media amalgamation of abstract arts, visuals, colourful images and statements. Without a shadow of doubt, this “Shadoe” is here to stay forever!
