NASA dubs 2024 Moon mission ‘Artemis’

Washington: NASA’s next mission to the Moon will be called Artemis, the US space agency has announced, asking for an additional US$ 1.6 billion to make the journey happen by its accelerated 2024 deadline. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said the mission was named Artemis after the Greek mythological goddess of the Moon and twin sister to Apollo, namesake of the programme that sent 12 American astronauts to the Moon between 1969 and 1972.  AFP

Monsanto ordered to pay $2 billion in new trial 

San Francisco:  A jury in California has ordered Bayer-owned Monsanto to pay more than USD 2 billion damages to a couple that sued on grounds the weed killer Roundup caused their cancer, lawyers said. The company insists the glyphosate-based product is not linked to cancer. The verdict was the third courtroom defeat for Bayer in cases accusing the chemicals in Roundup of causing cancer. AFP

Actress pleads guilty in college admissions scandal

New York: American actress Felicity Huffman has pleaded guilty for paying bribes to help her daughter gain admission to a prestigious university, avoiding what was sure to be a well-publicised trial and probably also dodging jail time. The former “Desperate Housewives” star was the latest celebrity brought down by the wide-ranging college bribery scandal that’s snared a slew of wealthy American parents. AFP
