New Delhi: The onset of monsoon could be delayed further by a day to June 7, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. On Saturday, private weather forecaster Skymet too revised its forecast from June 4 to June 7. Last month, the IMD said it could happen on June 6, with an error margin of plus or minus four days. PTI
July 10 new deadline for issuing Form 16
New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for employers to issue Form 16 TDS certificate for financial year 2018-19 to its employees by 25 days till July 10. However, the extension would leave the salaried taxpayers with a limited time-frame of just 20 days to file their income tax returns. PTI
‘Cyclone man’ Mohapatra appointed new IMD chief
New Delhi: Renowned scientist and cyclone warning specialist Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, 54, was on Tuesday appointed as the chief of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for five years, a Personnel Ministry order said. He will assume charge in August. Mohapatra and his team at the Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD have earned praise for accurate forecasts on cyclones, including during the recent cyclone ‘Fani’, enabling the authorities to ensure early evacuation of millions of people.
