Questioning the Narendra Modi government’s disinvestment policy, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) — Central trade union affiliated to BJP’s ideological spearhead RSS — has decided to launch a nationwide campaign against it.
The development is bound to cause embarrassment to the ruling BJP. The BMS has decided to meet parliamentarians, including those from Opposition parties, to pressurise the government to abandon its disinvestment move.
The public sector national co-ordination committee of the BMS at a meeting here decided to hold a seven-day nationwide “Jagran Abhiyan” (awareness programme) on “Save Public Sector”, starting September 1.
A national convention of PSU employees has been lined up in the national capital. It will prepare a policy document on role of PSUs and charter of demands which will be submitted to the government.
“Parliamentarians cutting across party lines will be approached by BMS’ local units soliciting their intervention against disinvestment,” said BMS president CK Saji Narayanan.
The BMS has decided to launch the agitation after Niti Aayog identified 92 of the existing 300 PSUs for disinvestment on ground that they were running into losses. Those identified include land and industrial plants.
