Three undertrials have escaped in Sambhal district after shooting down two policemen with rifles inside the police van.
The undertrials shot dead the two policemen after snatching their rifles. The deceased have been identified as Brijlal and Harendra, both from Moradabad district.
The police van was carrying 24 undertrials who had gone to Chandausi court for a court appearance and were on their way back to Moradabad jail when the incident occurred.
Sambhal SP Yamuna Prasad said the driver of the police van heard the gun shots and when he stopped the van to check, he saw two policemen had been shot dead and three undertrails had escaped with the police rifles. Prasad said the entire area was being combed to catch the culprits who had absconded. The families of the policemen will be given Rs 50 lakh each as per rules, one member of the family will be provided a government job and the family will receive extraordinary pension.
