Hyderabad, July 4
After the TDP, it is now the Congress that has come on the radar of Chief Minister YS Jagan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh. Crying “vendetta”, the AP Congress has questioned the move of the state government move to go ahead with demolishing of the Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan, a memorial to the former Prime Minister on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam.
The move comes within days of the AP Government going ahead with demolishing “Praja Vedika”, the office complex adjoining the residence of former AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the banks of Krishna in Amravati. Former Telangana Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao has termed the move to demolish Rajiv Smruthi Bhawan and build a museum there as “political vendetta”.
The state government has invited tenders for retrofitting the Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan where a Sea Harrier Museum will be built.
Former PM Rajiv Gandhi had spent the entire day in this building before he left for Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu where he was assassinated. “The very fact that Rajiv Gandhi had spent his last day here is reason enough to protect the building as a memorial”. — TNS
