Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced in the Rajya Sabha that the examination for direct recruitment to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in the country would be conducted in 13 regional languages, including Punjabi, other than the present English and Hindi. The other regional languages in which the exams would be conducted are Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. tns

Embassies not helping Indians: Mann    

Speaking in Lok Sabha, Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said there were complaints that the Indian embassies in foreign countries were creating trouble for Indians in cases of passport and passports for children of those who sought political asylum. Many Indians in Saudi Arabia were forced to work like slaves. When they somehow manage to reach the embassy for help, they were asked to produce NOC from the employer. This must stop, he said. Bedi apologised for water remark: Rajnath

Even as Opposition parties sought a resolution in LS to seek removal of Puddcherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asked protesters to let the matter rest as Bedi had apologised for the remarks. In her now deleted tweet, Bedi on Sunday blamed the water crisis in Tamil Nadu on "poor governance, corrupt politics, indifferent bureaucracy with highly selfish and cowardly attitude of the people". Parties from Tamil Nadu had been protesting against Bedi in the LS. tns
