New Delhi, July 9
Four months after the Supreme Court referred the Ayodhya dispute to a panel of mediators to explore the possibility of an amicable settlement, a litigant in the case on Tuesday sought early hearing of the vexed matter pending before the top court since 2010.
“No progress is made in the mediation even after the first round,” senior counsel PS Narasimha, representing Gopal Singh Visharad, told a Bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi. He requested the court to list the matter for early hearing. The Bench asked if the litigant had filed an application for early hearing and assured that it would look into it after Narsimha replied in the affirmative. A five-judge Constitution Bench on March 8 referred the dispute to mediation. — TNS
