Madarsa attacked after carcass found in vicinity

LUCKNOW: Tension prevails in Fatehpur district following an attack on a local madarsa after animal remains were found near a pond in the vicinity. Perceiving a connection between the carcass and a religious seminary at Behta village, villagers pelted stones and damaged the madarsa and later set it ablaze. The police rushed to the site and dispersed the mob and buried the remains. TNS

Ex-PM Chandra Shekhar’s son Neeraj joins BJP 

New Delhi: A day after he quit the Samajwadi Party and resigned from Rajya Sabha, Neeraj Shekhar, son of ex-PM Chandra Shekhar, on Tuesday joined the BJP. He had been contesting LS polls from his father’s pocket borough Ballia and won twice in 2007 and 2009. However, after he lost Ballia to the BJP’s Bharat Singh in 2014, the SP sent him to RS. He did not contest the recent LS polls. TNS

Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh get new Guvs 

New Delhi: Senior BJP leaders Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and Anusuiya Uikey were on Tuesday appointed as Governors of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, respectively. A communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said their appointments “will take effect from the dates they assume charge”. Harichandan replaces ESL Narasimhan and Uikey Anandiben Patel. TNS

NHRC notice to UP Govt over Balrampur school accident

Lucknow: Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports about schoolchildren suffering burn injuries in Balrampur after a high tension wire fell on a government school building, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh Government. The NHRC has asked state Chief Secretary and Chairman Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited India for a report within four weeks. It has also recommended ex gratia to the victims. According to its spokesperson, the NHRC has been insisting that the government and power authorities take effective steps for maintenance of the infrastructure so that precious human lives are not lost in fatal accidents. Swatantra Singh is new Uttar Pradesh BJP chief

Lucknow: The BJP has appointed veteran BJP leader Swatantra Dev Singh the state BJP president in place of Mahendra Nath Pandey who has become a Union Minister following his victory from Chandauli in the recently concluded election. Belonging to the Kurmi or Patel OBC caste, Singh is currently the Minister of State with Independent charge for Transport and Protocol and Minister of State for Power in Yogi Aditynath's government. Singh has a long political career in the RSS and its various frontal organisations, including the ABVP and BJP Yuva Morcha. He first became a member of UP Vidhan Parishad in 2004 and has been the BJP's state general secretary since 2012. TNS

Naga peace talks at advance stage: Minister

Lucknow: The government on Tuesday said the Naga peace talks between insurgent group NSCN-IM and an interlocutor of the Centre were at an advanced stage and revealing details of the progress at this juncture would prejudice “final settlement".  In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, MoS for Home G Kishan Reddy said, “Naga political negotiations are at an advanced stage and disclosing the details of the negotiations will be premature and prejudicial to the final settlement.” On August 3, 2015 a framework agreement was signed by NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah and the government interlocutor.
