AHMEDABAD, July 12
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on Friday granted bail by the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court on a personal bond of Rs 15,000 in a defamation case filed by the Ahmedabad District Co-operative Bank of which Union Home Minister Amit Shah is one of the directors. The court has fixed the next hearing in the case on September 7.
The defamation suit was filed by the bank against Gandhi after he alleged that it had swapped Rs 750 crore in scrapped currency with valid notes within five days of demonetisation on November 8, 2016.
“I am not to be cowed down by such attacks that may make me run from pillar to post. I will fight it out,” Gandhi said, talking to media persons outside the court. — OC
