Shah: Illegal immigrants will have to go

New Delhi, July 17

The Centre will make all efforts to identify illegal immigrants staying in any part of India and deport them as per international law, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha while responding to a question on whether the government has any plan to extend National Register for Citizens (NRC) in other parts of the country.

At present, the NRC is being updated only in Assam under strict monitoring of the Supreme Court and July 31 has been set as a deadline for its final publication.

Noting that the question asked by Samajwadi Party’s Javed Ali Khan was “very good”, Shah said: “The government will identify illegal immigrants living on every inch of the country’s soil and will deport them.” — TNS
