New Delhi: Over 1,300 commandos have been freed after the Centre removed the VIP security cover of several politicians and lawmakers, officials said on Wednesday. A comprehensive security review of about 350 VIPs and dignitaries was undertaken by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) early this week, they said. More than 1,300 security personnel drawn from forces like CRPF, CISF, NSG and Delhi Police stand to be relieved after this review, the officials said. About 3,000 personnel of these Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will still be part of the VIP security setup of the central government, an official said. PTI

Indian-origin man fined for grenade prank
Singapore: A 59-year-old Indian-origin cleaner was fined 4,500 singaporean dollars on Wednesday for putting a toy grenade in an upright manner at a fire-hydrant outside Singapore's Istana, the Presidential Palace in the city centre, causing panic and sparking a high deployment of public resources. Elankovan Marimuthu had chanced upon the toy grenade while working as a cleaner near the Istana area at about 7am on November 3, 2017. He placed it upright to see how the public would react to it. UP seeks Gujarat help for Ram statue
Lucknow: The UP Government would soon sign a pact with Gujarat for technical assistance to build a 251-metre-tall statue of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. The proposed statue in Ayodhya is going to be 69 m taller than the Rs 2,989 crore Vallabh Bhai Patel's Statue of Unity in Gujarat. It would be 158 m taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York. CM Yogi Adityanath declared that the proposed statue would put Ayodhya on the world map of tourism, culture, history and spirituality. tns
Rare Nike trainers sold for over Rs 3 crore
New York: A rare pair of Nike’s “Moon Shoe” designed by the sportswear giant’s co-founder has sold for $437,500 (over Rs 3 crore), breaking the world auction record for a pair of sneakers, according to New York auction house Sotheby’s. They were the last shoes to sell in an auction of 100 pairs of trainers -- from Adidas to Air Jordans -- in New York. The 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat Moon Shoe was expected to fetch $160,000. But Canadian collector Miles Nadal purchased them for $437,500, Sotheby’s said. IANS
