New Delhi: The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) has requested the Centre to withdraw the 10 per cent Customs duty imposed on newsprint and uncoated paper used for printing newspapers and light-weight coated papers used for magazines. “Publishers are already reeling under severe financial pressure due to many factors like lower advertisement revenues, higher costs and digital onslaught from technological giants. Small and medium newspapers will go into deeper losses and many of them will be forced to close down’’, the INS said in a statement. TNS

Nagpur: The history of the RSS and its role in 'nation-building' have been included in the syllabus of a university based in Nagpur, where the Sangh has its headquarters. The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has included RSS history in the BA-II (History) course. While the third section of the syllabus has details about the role of the RSS in nation-building, the first section dwells on the Congress and the rise of Jawaharlal Nehru and the second on the civil disobedience movement. pti

New Delhi: Ruling that unauthorised collection of call records of MPs amounts to breach of privilege if it hinders their functioning, a Rajya Sabha panel, which looked into the issue of alleged surveillance of mobile phones of senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley in 2013, has asked Delhi Police to pursue the criminal case filed in the matter with ‘all sincerity’ and inform it about the outcome of the judicial proceedings. tns
