New Delhi: An estimated 66 million children aged 5-11 years in India access internet on devices of their family members, constituting about 15 per cent of the country's active internet userbase, as per Internet and Mobile Association of India in its report titled 'India Internet 2019'. Overall, India had 451 million internet users at the end of March this year, second only to China in terms of monthly active internet users. Urban India had almost the same number of users as in rural parts. Female users are half of the 258 million male users. PTI
New snake species named after Uddhav son
Aurangabad: A new species of snakes has been discovered in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra and named after Tejas Thackeray, younger son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, for his contribution to the find. The species falls in category of cat snakes and belong to genus Boiga, said Pune-based Foundation for Biodiversity Conservation director Varad Giri. The species was named ‘Thackeray's cat snake’ (scientific name ‘Boiga thackerayi’) for researcher Tejas Thackeray, who spotted it in 2015 and studied its behavior in detail. PTI
Food delayed, UP cop slaps seat belt challan
Lucknow: Agitated over the delay in being served "baati-chokha", a UP Police Sub-Inspector allegedly booked a food van owner for not wearing a seat belt while driving. The incident came to light after a video of the incident went viral. Talkatora SI Dinesh Chandra, who was suspended following an inquiry, is learnt to have visited Kanhaiya Lal's van for food in the afternoon but as food was delayed, he left in a huff. The SI challaned Lal for "not wearing seat belt" when he was drivinf home, said sources. IANS
