New Delhi, September 7
The government today set up a task force to identify infrastructure projects that would qualify for investments of Rs 100 lakh crore in order to make the country a 5-trillion economy by 2024-25. The minimum benchmark for greenfield and brownfield projects will be Rs 100 crore each, according to an official release.
The task force, to be headed by the Economic Affairs Secretary and comprising secretaries from different ministries, other senior officials and the Niti Aayog CEO, will draw up a ‘National Infrastructure Pipeline’ of technically feasible and financially/economically viable infrastructure projects that can be initiated by the current fiscal itself. It will submit a report on the pipeline for the current fiscal by October 31 and on the indicative pipeline for 2021-25 by December-end, said the statement.
The task force will list projects that can be included in the pipeline for each of the remaining five years from fiscals 2021-25.
The government has calculated that the country needs to spend about Rs 100 lakh crore on infrastructure from the current fiscal to 2024-25. This is in keeping with PM Narendra Modi’s I-Day declaration that Rs 100 lakh crore needed to be invested in infrastructure over the next five years.
