Bengaluru: To check exam malpractices, Bhagat PU College in Haveri district of Karnataka made its students write the exam with cardboard cartons covering their head. The students were provided with “modified” cartons with an opening on one side when they came to write their mid-term exam on October 16, official sources said. The college officials called it an “experiment” to prevent students from copying from other answer-sheets, sources said. As the pictures went viral, education board officials visited the college and stopped it. PTI
New Marine Police Force to guard coastline
New Delhi: The MHA has completed modalities for setting up Central Marine Police Force to strengthen coastal security. A final proposal would be sent to the Cabinet by early next month for approval, sources said. Unlike other Central forces, the Central Marine Police Force will have own cadre, rules, manual, Act, infrastructure and would be headed by a D-G rank officer, an official said. India has a vast coastline of 7,516 km touching 13 states and UTs. It also has around 1,197 islands. IANS
Delhi Govt nod to setting up board for barbers
New Delhi: The Delhi government on Saturday approved the setting up of 'Delhi Kesh Kala Board' to revive and promote the traditional art of hair grooming by implementing welfare measures for barbers and providing them advanced training and financial assistance. Unofficial estimates peg the worth of India's hair care industry at Rs 22,500 crore. The board will have five members. The aim will be to provide adequate training on latest technology prevailing in the industry. PTI
Film on Kerala floods makes it to Cairo fest
Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam award-winning filmmaker Jayaraj's latest offering, "Roudram 2018", based on the devastating 2018 Kerala floods, will be screened at the 41st Cairo International Film Festival. The film tells the story of an elderly couple trapped in a sinking double-storey house, without food, water and any form of connectivity. Twenty-five pc of the film's profits will go to relief and rehabilitation of those affected by the floods, the filmmaker said. IANS
