New Delhi, October 21

Staying the ongoing criminal trial in connection with an alleged sex CD in which Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as an accused, the Supreme Court on Monday asked him to explain why the trial not be shifted out of the state.

A three-Judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi issued a notice to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister on CBI’s petition seeking transfer of the criminal trial to another state as it accused him of threatening witnesses.

The CBI had registered a case against Baghel in September 2018, then Chhattisgarh Congress president, on a complaint that he had allegedly tried to frame the then state PWD minister and BJP leader Rajesh Munat in the fake sex CD case. An extortion case was lodged in Raipur in 2017 on a complaint by state BJP leader Prakash Bajaj. Police had booked Baghel and journalist Vinod Verma for tarnishing Munat’s image.
