New Delhi, November 25
The first consignment of 6,090 MT of onions from Egypt will arrive in Mumbai early December, the Department of Consumer Affairs today said. Onions are being offered to state governments for distribution at Rs 52-55 per kg ex-Mumbai.
These will be made available at Rs 60 per kg ex-Delhi.
State governments may lift stock from the specified location on their own and will also have the option of getting transportation facilitated through NAFED, if needed. The supply of imported onions will begin from early December, it said.
“For Delhi, while the demand is yet to be made by the state government, NAFED has informed it will retail onions through its own outlets and those of Mother Dairy, Kendriya Bhandar and NCCF,” it added.
The demand received so far from state governments for the first week is 2,265 MT.
