Kohima: A newly married couple in Nagaland’s Dimapur town was arrested after a photo of them brandishing assault rifles on their wedding reception went viral on social media. The Dimapur police took suo moto cognizance of the photo and arrested them on Wednesday for unauthorised display of firearms in contravention to the ceasefire ground rules. Bohoto Kiba and his newly married wife posed for photographs with the assault rifles on November 9 during their reception, the police said. PTI
Telangana gets its first ‘child-friendly’ police station
Hyderabad: Telangana’s first ‘child- friendly’ police station was on Thursday inaugurated at Medipally here, in association with Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), founded by Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi. As part of the joint initiative, the BBA will also organise a training session to raise awareness, sensitise and inform police personnel on the guidelines laid down by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for establishing child-friendly police stations, an official release said. Jaipur Foot event at Capitol Hill next week
Washington: An event on India’s iconic Jaipur Foot will be held at Capitol Hill, USA, on November 20 to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The Jaipur Foot, a prosthetic limb, was developed in 1968 by a group of eminent orthopaedic surgeons and craftsmen at the SMS Medical College Hospital, Jaipur. Lakhs of physically challenged people in India and across the world have benefited from the innovative and inexpensive prosthetic limbs. The event will focus on Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of compassion, caring and service to humanity, and India’s contribution to a series of artificial limb fitment camps in a number of countries. PTI
