PCA introduces annual contracts for 30 players in 3 categories

In a major development, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has decided to introduce an annual contracts system for the state’s leading players. PCA will select the top 30 players from the region in three different categories for the central contract system on a yearly basis. PCA secretary Puneet Bali announced this during PCA’s first Apex Council Meeting at the IS Bindra Stadium today.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of PCA president Rajinder Gupta. Bali said that the players will be grouped in three categories, A, B and C, with 10 players in each category.

The 10 players in Category A will be paid Rs 8 lakh per annum while the 10 Category B will be paid Rs 6 lakh per annum. The 10 Category C players (U-16 and U-19) will be paid a monthly remuneration of Rs 10, 000. A PCA statement said that the players will be placed in these categories on the basis of their performances during the season. A sub-committee has been constituted to make the rules and to discuss the modalities of the contracts system.

It was also announced that a state of the art academy will be set up at the Mohali stadium. It will be in operation throughout the year to hone the skills of the state’s players in various age groups. It would also cater to their physical fitness and rehabilitation. 

Certified coach 

PCA would procure the services of a qualified and certified cricket coach, fielding coach, trainer, physiotherapist, dietician, nutritionist and sports psychologist for the academy. The health club and physiotherapy rooms will be upgraded to current international standards and will be attached with the academy.
