Fratricide: 6 ITBP jawans dead

Narayanpur, December 4 

Six ITBP jawans posted in Naxal-affected Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh were killed and two injured when one of them started firing at colleagues in anger before shooting himself to death.

The incident took place around 8.30 am in a camp of the ITBP’s 45th battalion in Kadenar village, around 350 km from Raipur, IGP (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

The two injured have been taken to state capital Raipur for treatment. Sources said the personnel were stationed in Naxal-hit areas in Kadenar, 60 km from Narayanpur district headquarters. 

Constable Masudul Rahman who was furious over some argument started firing in anger, in which all the soldiers were killed. Those killed in the firing are head constables Mahendra Singh of Sandiyar in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, and Daljit Singh of Jagpur in Ludhiana, Punjab; constables Surjit Sarkar of North Shrirampur in Burdwan, Bishwarup Mahato of Khukrampura in Purlia (both places in Bengal) and constable Bejish AC of Eravattur in Kozhikode, Kerala. The one accused of firing was sonstable Masudul Rehman of Nadia in Bengal. — Agencies

Ludhiana village mourns 

Ludhiana: Head Constable Daljit Singh’s family learnt about his death on a portal. He is survived by his wife, 13-year-old daughter Jasmine,  and nine-year-old son Abhijot. As news spread, a large crowd gathered at his house. 

Gloom in Bilaspur village

Shimla: Head Constable Mahendra Singh, in his early 30s, is survived by his father Karam Singh Jamwal, a retired ITBP Inspector, mother Leela Devi, wife Seema Devi and sons Arunav and Shourya. Ghumarwin SDM visited the bereaved family.
