Cong fields Gehlot’s son from Jodhpur

New Delhi, March 28

The Congress today fielded Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav Gehlot from the Jodhpur Lok Sabha seat, marking his electoral debut from Rajasthan.

Gehlot has represented Jodhpur in the Lok Sabha in the past. The party also named former NDA minister Jaswant Singh's son Manvendra Singh from Barmer. Singh had switched over to the Congress from the BJP ahead of the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly elections. Former MP Jyoti Mirdha has been fielded from Nagaur in the state. Jyoti is related to the Bhupinder Singh Hooda family of Haryana. Her sister is married to Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda.

The list also features former minister Namo Narain Meena as a candidate from Sawai Madhopur. In all, 31 candidates have been declared — 19 in Rajasthan and six each in UP and Gujarat.  AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi won’t contest from Phulpur as the Congress named Pankaj Niranjan as its candidate from the seat which former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru represented till his demise. — TNS
