MP’s Orchha on tentative heritage site list

New Delhi: The architectural heritage of Orchha town in Madhya Pradesh which depict peculiar style of the Bundela dynasty have been included in UNESCO’s tentative list of world heritage sites following a proposal sent by the ASI to the UN body. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had sent a proposal to the UNESCO on April 15 to include the sites in its list, an ASI official said. According to the rules, to be a part of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites, the site first has to be on the tentative list. After that another proposal is sent to the UNESCO, the official said. PTI

Ghaziabad student scales Mount Everest

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad-based mountaineer Sagar Kasana has scaled Mount Everest, world’s highest peak. He unfurled the Indian flag at the summit at 10.15 am on May 22, his father Ajab Singh Kasana said. He will return home on June 1. Sagar, the final year graduating student at Noida College of Physical Education, left Ghaziabad on April 4 and reached Kathmandu, Nepal, the same day. He left Kathmandu on April 6 and reached the first base camp on May 3 via Lukla, Fekdeag, Nemche bazar, Tyagbo che Monastery, Dingboche and Laboche, said his father. IANS

No visa for Padma awardee, MEA intervenes

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday sought a report over the reported denial of visa extension to a German Padma Shri awardee, who has threatened to return her award over the issue. German national Friederike Irina Bruning (61), who was awarded the Padma Shri for cow protection this year, has threatened to return her reward after her application for visa extension for further stay in India has been rejected by the MEA, according to a media report. Reacting to the media report, Swaraj tweeted: “Thanks for bringing this to my notice. I have asked for a report.” PTI
