A number of metal objects were removed from the stomach of a 24-year-old mentally challenged person after an operation at Udaipur’s Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital.

The items removed from his stomach included keys, rings, nail cutter and some objects that looked like parts of a ‘hookah’, an instrument used for smoking flavoured tobacco, among others.

The patient, a resident of Salumber in Udaipur whom the doctors have refused to identify, was taken the hospital after chronic vomiting and complaints of abdominal pain and loss of appetite, said Dr DK Sharma, Professor and Head of the RNT Medical College, Udaipur. A CT scan and X-ray revealed metal objects in his intestines. The surgery lasted about 90 minutes. The metal objects had caused an ulcer in his abdomen, the doctor said.
