New Delhi, June 18
Days after locating wreckage of Air Force’s AN-32 helicopter, rain and an impossible terrain have made it tough to lift the bodies of the 13 dead.
It has been raining near the crash site in Mechuka, Arunachal Pradesh. Helicopters, including Mi-17s, Cheetah and ALH, have been unable to approach the site over the past three days, because of inclement weather and cloud cover over the site — at a height of 12,000 ft.
Operations to retrieve the bodies need the copter pilots to be able to see the steep mountain sides to safely hover close to the crash site and pick up the bodies. Bringing the bodies down by trekkers is impossible as the crash site is surrounded by several km of uncharted jungles, which has no pathway inside. — TNS
