Zomato lays off 541 staffers, blames automation

New Delhi: Food delivery platform Zomato on Saturday said it has laid off 541 people — 10 per cent of the company’s strength — across customer, merchant and delivery partner support teams. The reason behind the move is an improved Zomato platform with Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven bots and automation in resolving customer queries that has led to an overall reduction in direct order-related support queries, the company said. Undertrial makes Ganesha idol from soap

Akola: A 31-year-old undertrial prisoner from Akola district jail in Maharashtra has prepared an idol of Lord Ganesha using soap, an official said on Saturday. “It took an entire day and night and five kg of soap for the prisoner, Chandrakant Nilakhe, to prepare the idol,” said Superintendent of Akola district jail AS Sadaphule. Students seek Bear Grylls’ help to save trees

Mumbai: Students of a city college have written to British adventurer Bear Grylls, seeking his support to stop felling of trees in Aarey Colony here for Mumbai Metro. The Maharashtra government’s decision to allow around 2,700 trees to be cut in Aarey Milk Colony to make way for a carshed of Mumbai Metro is facing a lot of opposition. Joining hands with city-based KAASH Foundation, some students of St Xavier College here have written to Bear Grylls, requesting him to back the “Save Aarey” movement. PTI
